Flights Resumes At Enugu Airport
Flight operations have resumed at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, after aviation workers suspended activities earlier on Friday over the Federal Government’s plan to concession the airport.
The disruption followed a protest by workers under the aegis of aviation unions, who shut down the airport to express opposition to the proposed concession, citing concerns over job security and workers’ welfare.
Passengers were left stranded as flights were cancelled and airport activities brought to a halt for several hours.
Normal operations resumed later in the day after intervention by airport authorities and security agencies, allowing airlines to recommence take-offs and landings.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is yet to issue an official statement on the protest, but discussions are expected to continue with workers’ unions as the government pushes ahead with its airport concession programme.
