Nurses Petition IGP Over Assault Of Colleague
The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police over the alleged assault of a community nurse during a government-approved immunisation exercise in Lagos.
The complaint concerns Nurse Hussein, who was reportedly attacked while performing her official duties at Olanike Dairo Primary and Secondary School.
According to the petition, the nurse and her team had arrived at the school as part of a routine vaccination outreach.
While waiting outside due to internal school discussions, Nurse Hussein was allegedly slapped by the school’s Head Mistress, Madam Bimpe.
The ENF noted that a video circulating on social media reportedly shows the Head Mistress admitting to the assault.
The nurses’ forum described the attack as an affront not only to the individual nurse but also to public health services and government authority.
They demanded a prompt police investigation, prosecution of those responsible, protection for health workers during outreach programmes, and a public warning against attacks on healthcare professionals.
Nurse Hussein recounted that she was standing outside the school compound, following her superiors’ instructions, when she was physically attacked.
She refused to apologise for obeying directives and insisted the assault was unwarranted. The nurse’s husband later witnessed the Head Mistress admit that the school does not accept vaccines, but justified the slap due to her public statements
