Endurance Dennis, a female student at Taraba State University, has issued a public apology to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) after her choice of outfit during the university’s recent Costume Day sparked widespread controversy.
In a Facebook post, Dennis explained that she had initially considered her costume—designed to resemble a nun—as harmless fun. She admitted, however, that she did not fully understand how it could be perceived as disrespectful to Christian beliefs and sacred symbols.
“I write this with a heart full of remorse and deep reflection regarding the pictures circulating online from the recent Costume Day held during the Taraba State University Students’ Week,” she wrote. “My outfit resembling that of a nun has caused pain, anger, and distress to many people, especially within the Christian community. I sincerely apologize for my actions and the way they appeared.”
Dennis emphasized that she never intended to mock or insult any religion. She acknowledged the importance of respecting all faiths and sacred symbols, whether in public or private, and expressed gratitude to those who corrected her in a constructive and respectful manner.
To CAN, the University Chaplaincy, university management, and the general public, she asked for forgiveness, promising to be more considerate, respectful, and mindful in all her future actions, both online and offline.
