Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, shared an emotional message during the traditional wedding of his son, Gbolahan, to Damilola Adio, held last weekend in Lagos. A video of his speech went viral on social media on Tuesday.
In his remarks, Adeleke reflected on the conversations he had with Gbolahan over the years about marriage. He recounted how his son would often playfully insist he was still “testing” before settling down.
The governor, who is Afrobeats star Davido’s uncle, said he had watched his son’s relationships closely and realized they shared similar tastes in women. He admitted that previous relationships didn’t feel right, but everything changed the day Gbolahan introduced Damilola.
Expressing his appreciation to the bride’s family, Adeleke said, “Adio family, we set a date, and it came to pass. All the phone calls, the visits to London to greet you and tell you that we wanted to marry this lady… The day he brought home Damilola, I hugged him and said, ‘That’s it.’”
He continued, “I want to thank you for accepting us to marry your daughter. You know your daughter was fresh when we came to marry her, and we will take care of her.”
The governor’s heartfelt words highlighted his joy in seeing his son find a partner he considers the perfect match and emphasized the unity between the Adeleke and Adio families.
