Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have appealed to their colleagues to suspend the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The lawmakers, Barile Nwakoh, who represents Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, made the appeal days after two other legislators publicly adopted a similar stance, calling for restraint and dialogue rather than impeachment.

Earlier on Monday, Sylvanus Eyinna Nwankwo and Peter Abbey had broken ranks with the majority, urging fellow lawmakers to approach the situation with caution and understanding.

The legislators advocated alternative measures to impeachment, suggesting that reconciliation remains possible amid the growing confrontation between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state.

The appeal was made during a press briefing held in Port Harcourt.

Speaking at the briefing, Nwankwo, the Minority Leader of the House and representative of Omuma State Constituency, said the lawmakers had received appeals from leaders both within and outside Rivers State, urging them to exercise leniency.

He called on his colleagues to reconsider the impeachment process and pursue peaceful means of resolving the dispute.

Abbey, who represents Degema State Constituency, acknowledged that while the governor may have breached certain constitutional provisions, it was important to recognise that errors can occur.

He stressed that the governor also bears responsibility to ensure that such violations do not happen again in the future.
