Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has dragged activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju to court, seeking a total of N1.5 billion over alleged defamatory statements.
Obi filed the suit at an Anambra State High Court in Onitsha, accusing Adeyanju of using social media to make reckless, malicious, and scandalous remarks against him. The claim includes N1 billion in general damages and N500 million in exemplary damages.
In addition to the damages, Obi is asking the court to compel Adeyanju to issue a full, public apology.
Responding to the lawsuit, Adeyanju said he was relieved that Obi followed through with his legal threat. “Finally, Peter Obi has sued me. I am actually happy and relieved that he didn’t chicken out in the end. Interestingly, he dragged me all the way to Anambra State, even though he is almost always in Abuja where I reside. But no shaking, we move,” he told DAILY POST.
