There was mild drama on Wednesday in the Isale-Oko area of Sagamu, Ogun State, after two inmates attempted to escape while being transported back to custody following a court session.
Punch Metro gathered from a local source, who requested anonymity, that the incident happened when officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) were returning the inmates to prison. The source said both inmates fled, prompting NCoS officers to chase after them.
According to the source, one of the escapees was caught on the spot, while the other was apprehended later the same day.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Ogun State Command spokesperson for the NCoS, Olayinka Owolola, said both inmates had been successfully rearrested without any shooting or injuries.
“They attempted, but we captured the two of them without any shooting or injuries. We intend to take them back to court and retry them for the attempted escape,” Owolola stated.
