FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has responded to public criticism over traveling with his sons, Jordan and Joaquin, on an official trip to Dubai for the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor’s Forum.
The trip sparked controversy after photos of the minister’s sons with the Nigerian delegation circulated online, prompting accusations of misuse of public funds and nepotism.
Addressing the backlash, Wike said he broke no law and had every right to travel with his children. “What law says that my sons shouldn’t travel? Did they sign any document? It doesn’t have to be a personal trip. They have to know how Nigeria works,” he stated, challenging anyone to prove that the Federal Capital Territory Administration paid for their travel.
He also dismissed claims that he was preparing them for political positions, revealing that his eldest son, a law graduate, now runs a farm, while his younger son, who holds a master’s degree in Economics, is building a career in real estate.
Wike added that he was proud of his sons’ discipline and achievements, saying, “I’m happy I have children who have given me comfort and not problems. I won’t travel with my enemy’s children.”
