Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has officially prohibited all “signing off” celebrations by final-year students, citing concerns over recurring chaos, violence, and disruptions linked to such events.
The university stated that the presence of unauthorized individuals during these celebrations poses a serious threat to the safety of students, staff, and the broader campus community. Management said the ban is necessary to maintain order and protect everyone on campus.
Students found participating in or organizing any form of “signing off” activities risk severe disciplinary measures, including possible rustication. Outsiders involved in such activities may also face arrest and prosecution for disorderly conduct.
UNIZIK urged all students to prioritize their academic responsibilities and report any misconduct or safety threats to the appropriate authorities. The move aligns with similar actions taken by other Nigerian universities to curb unsafe and disruptive celebratory practices.
Students are advised to follow official university channels for updates and further instructions.
