Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has condemned the arrest and imprisonment of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the younger brother of actress Regina Daniels.
Reports indicate that Sammy West was taken into custody in Lagos on November 4 by operatives allegedly connected to Senator Ned Nwoko. He was later transferred to Abuja and arraigned before a Dutse Magistrate Court on November 6 without legal representation. The court ordered his detention at Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State until November 28.
Family members say Sammy was denied access to a lawyer and kept incommunicado, claiming the arrest stems from an ongoing personal dispute between Nwoko and Daniels. The actress had previously raised concerns about her brother’s whereabouts, while her siblings, Lawrence and Sweezzy, accused Nwoko of exploiting his political influence to orchestrate the detention.
Sowore described the situation as an abuse of power and called for Sammy West’s immediate release and the withdrawal of all charges against him. In a Facebook post, he stated:
“I have been informed that Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, in collusion with the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has had a young man unjustly imprisoned at Keffi Prison. The victim is Samuel Ojeogwu, aka Sammy West, the younger brother of Nwoko’s now-estranged wife, Regina Daniels.
“It is deeply troubling that this unholy alliance of impunity between Senator Nwoko, certain police officials, and some compliant magistrates continues unchecked. I call on the authorities to end this injustice immediately and release Sammy West by dropping the fabricated charges against him.”
