Court Remands Sowore To Kuje Prison
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre over an ongoing cybercrime case.
The court directed that he remain in custody until Wednesday when proceedings will continue on a two-count charge filed by the Department of State Services.
The case is linked to a social media post in which he allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal”.
The remand followed the revocation of Sowore’s bail after he failed to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.
Earlier, Justice Mohammed Umar had cancelled the bail and issued a warrant for his arrest.
The judge also dismissed an application seeking his removal from the case over claims of bias.
Sowore, who chose to represent himself after his lawyers withdrew from the matter, is expected back in court when the hearing resumes.
