Makinde Gives Support To PDP Future
The Peoples Democratic Party says it remains firmly in contention ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde insisting the party is strong and ready to surprise its critics.
He spoke on Friday at the Southwest PDP stakeholders’ meeting held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Makinde addressed claims that the party is finished, telling party members that the PDP is “well and alive.” He said the large turnout at the meeting, along with the presence of new defectors, showed that those predicting the party’s collapse were mistaken.
Makinde urged party leaders to focus on strengthening grassroots structures across wards, local governments and communities, stressing unity and loyalty as key to future success.
He expressed confidence that consistent organisation at the local level would position the party strongly ahead of the next elections.
He added that working with the President on national issues did not affect his loyalty to the opposition, insisting that a strong opposition remains vital to Nigeria’s democracy.
