OAU Students Boycott Lectures
Students of Obafemi Awolowo University have begun a 72-hour boycott of lectures over ongoing transport problems on campus.
The action started on April 13 after complaints about the new system introduced with buses donated by Oluremi Tinubu.
The Students’ Union, led by Adelani David and Habeeb Oke, said the decision followed meetings with key student bodies. They directed all students to stay away from lectures until April 16.
The union listed problems with the new transport plan, including poor coverage, too few buses and tricycles, overcrowding, and not enough drivers.
They said the system has made movement difficult for the over 35,000 students on campus.
Students are demanding more vehicles, a temporary return to the old system, and better planning with union input. They warned that if nothing changes after the boycott, a mass protest could follow.
