President Bola Tinubu has reinstated Salihu Dembos as director-general of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), reversing last month’s appointment of media entrepreneur Rotimi Pedro.
In a statement on Tuesday, Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, said Dembos would resume his role to complete his three-year tenure, which began in October 2023.
Tinubu also ordered the reinstatement of Ayo Adewuyi as executive director of news to finish his term running until 2027. Adewuyi was appointed in 2024.
The decision effectively cancels the management changes announced in August, when Pedro — a Lagos-born broadcaster and media consultant with over two decades of experience in television and sports rights — was named DG.
That shake-up had also seen Karimah Bello appointed executive director of marketing, Stella Din as executive director of news, and Sophia Mohammed as managing director of NTA Enterprises Limited.
All those appointments have now been set aside.
