Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has sealed a two-year move from National Women’s Soccer League club Bay FC to Saudi Women’s League giants Al Hilal.

The 30-year-old completed her medical on Monday night before signing with the Riyadh-based club, marking the start of a new chapter in her illustrious career. Oshoala had joined Bay FC in February 2024 after a highly successful spell with FC Barcelona Femeni.

She was absent during Bay FC’s 2-1 loss to Angel City on Monday, as The Athletic confirmed that both clubs had reached an agreement on an undisclosed transfer fee.

Oshoala featured in 25 league games for Bay FC last season, starting 23 times, scoring seven goals and providing one assist. In total, she made 38 appearances and scored eight goals during her time in the United States.

Her playing time had diminished recently, with Bay FC coach Albertin Montoya pointing to her adaptation to the NWSL’s physical demands and defensive responsibilities as key challenges.

“In this league, you have to [defend], and that’s something we’re working with her,” Montoya explained. “Once she gets that balance — confidence in front of goal and helping us defensively — she’ll be even more effective. Caroline Conti gives us that defensive presence right now.”

Oshoala, a six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, has previously starred for top clubs across Europe, Asia, and the USA. She was also part of Nigeria’s Super Falcons squad that won a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco in July.

Her move to Al Hilal offers a fresh opportunity to revive her career and continue her goalscoring legacy on a new stage.
