ADC Alleges Pressure Over Abuja Convention
In Abuja, the African Democratic Congress said its spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi alleged that Nyesom Wike threatened to revoke the licence of Rainbow Event Centre.
The claim surfaced ahead of the party’s national convention. Abdullahi said the warning was linked to the planned event. The situation added to tensions around the gathering.
He said the venue owners informed the party they were under pressure from authorities.
“After paying all the fees required, setting up for our convention tomorrow, the owner of Rainbow Event Centre has just informed us that he has come under pressure from the FCDA and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike that if he allows the ADC the use of his facilities, his licence will be revoked,” he wrote. The allegation was shared on X shortly before the event.
Despite the claim, the party went ahead with the convention as planned. “But we have already signed the contract with him. We will hold our convention tomorrow as planned at the Rainbow event centre,” he said.
“We will not bow to this creeping tyranny. And definitely not to this petty tyrant. ADC is rising, Nigeria is rising.” The event later held with several political figures in attendance.
During the gathering, some delegates reported discomfort due to poor ventilation and faulty cooling systems. Medical officials confirmed cases of headaches and exhaustion among attendees.
The controversy followed earlier struggles by the party to secure a venue. Authorities have denied any interference, while internal disputes within the party continue.
