ADC Blasts INEC Over Convention Absence
In Abuja, the African Democratic Congress declared its national convention valid and accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of failing its duty.
The party said INEC refused to attend and monitor the exercise. Rauf Aregbesola made the claim during the gathering. The dispute comes as political activities begin to build toward 2027.
Aregbesola insisted the process followed due steps and was properly conducted. He said decisions taken earlier had been communicated to INEC and recognised.
According to him, the former party leadership had been lawfully removed. He maintained that all actions at the convention were valid.
He argued that the law requires INEC to monitor party conventions once notified. He said the ADC gave the required notice and submitted all documents on time.
The party described INEC’s absence as a breach of duty. It warned that such actions could weaken trust in the electoral process.
Beyond the legal dispute, the party raised concerns about Nigeria’s democracy. It said a strong opposition is necessary for balance ahead of elections.
The ADC also pointed to ongoing reforms and political alliances. It urged members to stay committed as preparations for 2027 continue.
