ADC Lawmakers Target INEC Chair
The caucus of African Democratic Congress in the House of Representatives has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove and prosecute Joash Amupitan over claims of bias ahead of the 2027 elections.
The position was announced in Abuja by caucus leader Afam Ogene after a meeting.
The lawmakers said recent actions linked to the INEC chairman have raised doubts about his neutrality.
They cited alleged online posts and statements said to show support for the ruling party, though Independent National Electoral Commission has denied any link between Amupitan and the account.
They also accused INEC of worsening the crisis within the ADC by withdrawing recognition of David Mark as party leader and backing a rival faction.
According to the caucus, this has deepened divisions and could affect the party’s chances in future elections.
Beyond INEC, the group raised concerns about alleged judicial interference in political matters.
It warned that it may petition the National Judicial Council to investigate judges, saying growing distrust in key institutions could harm the country’s democracy.
