Akon’s longtime partner, Tomeka Thiam, has officially filed for divorce, ending their nearly three-decade marriage.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ Hip Hop, Tomeka stated that she and Akon tied the knot on September 15, 1996, and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
Although Akon has often been vague about the number of wives he has, Tomeka confirmed in the filing that they share a 17-year-old child together. She is seeking joint legal custody but wants physical custody of the child.
Tomeka is also requesting spousal support while asking the court to bar Akon from receiving any support from her.
Efforts to reach Akon for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
