Tinubu Approves CAF Hosting Bid
President Bola Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony.
The decision also covers the country’s proposal to stage the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football later this year.
The approval was confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation, which said the move is part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s place in African football administration.
Officials believe hosting both events could boost the country’s image in continental sports.
The CAF Awards ceremony brings together top football stars, coaches, officials and stakeholders from across Africa.
Nigeria previously hosted major football events and now hopes to secure another major continental gathering under the new bid.
The planned General Assembly is expected to attract football leaders from different African countries to Nigeria.
Authorities say preparations will begin once CAF concludes its review of the hosting proposals.
