FCCPC Clears Air On Airtime Borrowing
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has clarified that airtime borrowing and data advance services remain active in Nigeria.
This follows reports suggesting a possible ban. The agency said there is no directive stopping telecom operators from offering such services.
The clarification came amid growing concern among mobile users who rely on airtime and data loans.
Many feared the services had been scrapped without notice. The commission moved to calm the situation and clear the confusion in the public space.
According to the FCCPC, no policy decision has been made to suspend or prohibit these services.
It stated that telecom companies are still free to provide airtime borrowing and data advances to customers. The agency stressed that consumers should ignore misleading claims.
The commission urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading false reports.
It also reaffirmed its role in protecting consumer rights while ensuring fair practices in the telecom sector.
