Akpabio’s Aide Clears Air On APC Primary Report
The Office of the Senate President has denied reports claiming that the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, promised senatorial tickets to lawmakers who lost in the recent All Progressives Congress primaries.
The office said the claims circulating in the media do not reflect what was said.
According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio did not make any pledge to secure tickets for affected senators.
He explained that the Senate President only expressed sympathy to colleagues who were impacted by the outcome of the party exercise within the All Progressives Congress.
He added that Akpabio assured the senators that the party leadership was reviewing issues arising from the primaries in line with internal rules.
He also noted that the final list of candidates would be released according to the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
The office stressed that Akpabio remains committed to due process, party discipline and proper dispute resolution mechanisms.
It also dismissed suggestions that he made comments against military oversight, saying he supports careful engagement with security agencies while avoiding actions that could affect ongoing operations.
