Over 30 Injured As Osun Primary Turns Deadly
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has alleged that violence during factional Accord Party primaries left one person dead and several others injured.
The party said the incident occurred during the conduct of the exercise in parts of the state.
According to the APC campaign council, reports from Iwo Local Government Area indicated that a woman identified as Taliat Simbiat lost her life during the unrest.
The party also claimed that about 30 people suffered injuries as tensions escalated around the primaries.
The council criticised the violence, describing it as a setback for democratic participation.
It argued that party primaries should allow members to choose candidates peacefully rather than end in clashes and disorder.
The APC called for a full investigation into the incident and urged security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible.
It also asked the state government to cooperate with law enforcement authorities to ensure accountability.
