Amnesty Urges Action After Kogi Mass Abduction
Amnesty International has condemned the attack on Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, where armed men killed one person and abducted over 30 others.
The rights group called for urgent government action following the incident.
The attack happened on June 1, 2026, when gunmen invaded the community in the early hours of the day.
Victims included residents and passengers travelling in a commercial bus that was stopped along the road and taken into the bush.
The organisation said the incident shows the rising danger faced by rural communities and travellers in different parts of Nigeria.
It noted that repeated assurances from authorities have not stopped continued cases of killings and kidnappings.
Amnesty International called on the Federal Government to begin a full investigation, secure the release of the abducted victims and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
It also urged stronger protection for vulnerable communities to prevent future attacks.
