Atiku Takes Early Lead In ADC Presidential Primary
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has taken an early lead in the African Democratic Congress presidential primary as results are being collated across the country.
He is ahead of rivals Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in several states, with votes coming in from wards and local government areas.
In Zamfara State, Atiku secured a wide margin after polling over 60,000 votes, while Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen recorded far lower figures.
The exercise was conducted across all 14 local government areas, with officials reporting strong voter turnout and peaceful conduct during the process.
In Yobe State, Atiku also won comfortably with tens of thousands of votes from 178 wards across 17 local government areas. Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen trailed behind, as party officials described the process as orderly and in line with party guidelines.
Results from Ondo and other states were still being compiled at the time of reporting.
Atiku described the exercise as a sign of internal democracy and expressed confidence in the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections.
While Amaechi also described the process in his ward as fair, the ADC leadership dismissed reports of internal division, insisting the primary is being properly managed across the country.
