FG Tightens Ebola Checks At Airport
The Federal Government has activated emergency health screening at airports and other entry points across Nigeria following new Ebola outbreaks reported in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The move targets inbound passengers and returning Hajj pilgrims as authorities move to prevent the virus from entering the country.
Health and aviation agencies have introduced mandatory Ebola health declaration forms for all passengers arriving in Nigeria.
Screening desks and monitoring teams have been deployed at international airports in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Kano, with support from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
Officials say special attention is being given to flights from high-risk routes, including services from Uganda, while returning pilgrims from Saudi Arabia are also being closely monitored.
Airlines have been directed to ensure passengers complete health forms before boarding or on arrival where necessary.
The Federal Government says the measures are part of efforts to strengthen preparedness and avoid a repeat of past outbreaks.
Health experts have urged Nigerians to stay alert, report symptoms early and support screening efforts at ports of entry.
