NYSC Calls For Safer Travel Planning Of Corps
The National Youth Service Corps has advised parents and guardians to provide extra travel money for prospective corps members heading to orientation camps across Nigeria.
The advice was given by Director-General Olakunle Nafiu at a forum in Abuja on Wednesday.
He explained that corps members often travel long distances and may need to stop over for safety during journeys.
He noted that having enough funds helps them avoid risky night travel and unsafe conditions on the road.
Nafiu also warned that some corps members finish their transport fare before reaching their destinations and continue travelling in unsafe situations.
He linked this to increased exposure to security threats such as kidnapping and other dangers.
He added that the scheme is working with security agencies to improve safety along travel routes and provide support where needed.
He also reminded corps members to prepare early for mobilisation and avoid last-minute movement that could put them at risk.
