Tambuwal Steps Down From Senate Race
Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the 2027 Sokoto South senatorial contest and handed the African Democratic Congress ticket to former Finance Commissioner, Faruk Malami-Yabo.
The move followed internal consultations within the party ahead of the next general election. Party leaders said the decision was taken to maintain peace and avoid division in the ADC.
The ADC leadership in Sokoto confirmed the development on Friday, saying Tambuwal stepped aside to strengthen unity and create room for younger politicians.
The party said the former governor made the sacrifice to keep the structure stable as political activities gather pace ahead of 2027.
Several House of Representatives tickets were also reportedly given to younger aspirants.
The development came as the ADC intensified preparations for the February 2027 elections in Sokoto State. Party officials described the latest arrangement as part of efforts to build a stronger and more inclusive political platform.
Supporters of the party said the decision could reshape the political atmosphere in the state ahead of the polls.
Meanwhile, ADC chieftain Faruku Umar Fada emerged as the party’s candidate for Sokoto North/Sokoto South Federal Constituency.
After securing the ticket, he promised to focus on youth empowerment, education and better representation.
Party members described him as a grassroots politician with growing support across the constituency.
