Phyna, winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, has spoken out after facing criticism for seemingly moving on too quickly following her sister Ruth’s death. A video showing her at a nightclub with actress Regina Daniels shortly after the burial sparked backlash online, with some accusing her of being insensitive.
Responding on X, Phyna wrote:
“Grief has no manual, no fixed face, and no timetable. The fact that I choose to keep living, smiling, or sharing moments does not erase the pain I carry. Respect the process, even if you do not understand it. If you cannot extend compassion, then at least extend silence.”
Her message highlights that grief is personal, and everyone processes loss differently. While outward expressions of life and joy may seem at odds with mourning, they do not diminish the pain she continues to carry.
The controversy reflects how society often judges public figures for how they handle grief. Some defended Phyna, emphasizing that she has the right to mourn in her own way, while others criticized her actions.
Phyna has also publicly expressed frustration with Dangote Group over the handling of her sister’s burial, accusing the company of negligence and insensitivity. Her response demonstrates a commitment to grieve on her own terms while standing firm amid public scrutiny.
