Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly abducted twelve women in the Mussa district of Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Information gathered revealed that the women were seized on Saturday around 5 p.m. while returning from their farmlands.
Confirming the incident in a telephone conversation on Sunday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, said the command had opened an investigation into the matter.
He stated, “There was an abduction yesterday in Askira-Uba.
“Twelve females were abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists when they were coming back from the farm.”
The PPRO appealed for calm, assuring the public that security efforts were currently in progress.
“The details are still sketchy, but I can confirm that efforts are underway,” he said, adding that the outcome would be made public once concluded.
Residents in the community expressed anxiety over the development, urging authorities to act swiftly to secure the victims’ release.
A resident who requested anonymity said, “The news reached us at 5 p.m. yesterday when their relatives could not account for their whereabouts.
“As a community, we have informed our elected representatives and traditional leaders, including security agencies.”
The incident comes amid rising cases of abductions across the country, with states such as Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger still having schoolchildren in captivity.
