Omoyele Sowore has publicly disputed Senator Ned Nwoko’s claim that Regina Daniels was 21 when they married, insisting she was underage at the time of their union. He shared a copy of what he says is Daniels’ international passport, issued based on her birth certificate, as evidence.
In his statement, Sowore wrote:
“We have obtained a copy from Regina Daniels’s international passport, which was issued based on her birth certificate. She was underage at the time of her marriage to Chinedu @Senator Prince Ned Nwoko.
It’s crucial to question INEC Nigeria about this discrepancy, as he is currently using an @INECNigeris voters card to assert her age. Obtaining a voters card may not involve the same rigorous verification required for an international passport, which is backed by a birth certificate and other legitimate IDs. The All Progressives Congress Senator knew this, which is why he never traveled with @Regina Daniels to Europe or America.”
Sowore also called for legal scrutiny, suggesting Nwoko’s actions could amount to crimes against a minor and abuse of power.
Nwoko, meanwhile, has denied the claims, asserting that Daniels was 19 at the time of their marriage, not 17. He described contrary reports as false and misleading.
The controversy has reignited public debate about age, consent, and legality in high-profile relationships, with conflicting claims and official documents fueling widespread discussion.
