Nigerian On-Air Personality, Toolz, has reacted strongly after a social media user publicly attacked the widow of late actor Junior Pope, accusing her of moving on too quickly after his death.
The man made the comment after a video circulated online showing Jennifer Awele in the company of actress Mercy Johnson. Both women appeared confident in fitted outfits that highlighted their figures. Reacting to the video, the man wrote: “She’s looking so stunning, casually handling an iPhone 17 Pro Max, and looking like she’s already moved on, barely 1 year after losing her husband and bearing the burden of raising three kid-boys. Dear men, do whatever you can not to die young, especially after newly marrying.”
Toolz did not take the comment lightly and directly challenged the mindset behind it. She replied: “Barely a year’ is actually 20 months. She should lock herself away and mourn forever? When it wouldn’t be unusual in this country for a man to have another wife within the same one year.”
Her response triggered wider conversations online, with many people condemning the pressure placed on widows to remain in visible sorrow for extended periods. Supporters argued that Jennifer choosing to appear happy or confident does not erase her grief or diminish the memory of her late husband.
The situation once again highlights the double standards often faced by women in mourning, while men in similar circumstances are rarely subjected to the same level of judgment.
