A member of the United States House of Representatives, John James, has called on the Nigerian Government to ensure that all legal proceedings involving Nnamdi Kanu are conducted in line with constitutional provisions and internationally recognised human rights standards.

The US lawmaker stressed the importance of due process, saying judicial proceedings must remain transparent, fair and consistent with the rule of law.

He noted that adherence to legal standards is vital in maintaining confidence in the justice system.

James also urged authorities to respect fundamental rights throughout the trial process.

His remarks add to growing international attention surrounding Kanu’s ongoing court case.

The case involving the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra continues to attract reactions from political figures, rights advocates and observers both within Nigeria and abroad.
