WAEC Delays Leave Students Stranded At Night
Thousands of candidates sitting the ongoing WAEC examination in Oyo, Lagos and Osun states were left stranded after examination materials arrived several hours late.
The disruption forced many pupils to remain in their centres until nightfall, with some papers starting long after the official timetable.
The delays affected Agriculture Science Practical and Mathematics papers, with several candidates reportedly beginning examinations between evening and late night.
In some centres, classrooms became too dark, forcing students to depend on torchlights, phone flashlights and solar lamps to continue writing.
Parents and residents expressed concern over the situation, citing safety risks and the emotional strain on candidates.
Reports from different centres also pointed to shortages of question papers, while many students spent hours waiting before examinations eventually commenced.
The development mirrors similar problems recorded during the 2025 WASSCE. WAEC had previously blamed such disruptions on efforts to prevent examination malpractice, security concerns and logistical challenges.
The examination body had yet to respond to the latest complaints at the time of reporting.
