NCDC Pushes New Ebola Measures
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has called on state governors to increase funding for health workers as concerns grow over renewed Ebola cases in parts of Africa.
The appeal was made in Lagos during a travel medicine event attended by health experts and stakeholders.
The agency said Nigeria has strengthened surveillance at airports and other entry points to stop the virus from crossing into the country.
It also disclosed that contact tracing systems and partnerships with relevant agencies have been reinforced to improve preparedness.
Health authorities stressed that state governments must support frontline workers with funding, equipment and training.
They noted that disease prevention cannot rest solely on the shoulders of the Federal Government, especially as cross-border movement remains a major risk factor.
Meanwhile, Lagos and Oyo states assured residents that no Ebola case has been recorded in Nigeria.
Both states said emergency response teams, surveillance officers and health facilities have been placed on alert, while residents were urged to report any suspected symptoms quickly.
