At least 42 Nigerians have been deported from Ghana’s Ashanti Region following court rulings over alleged prostitution, fraud, and other criminal activities.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, announced the deportations on Thursday, December 18, 2025. He said other nationals affected include 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three Burkinabe, and seven from Benin, bringing the total number of foreign nationals deported to 68.

Amoakohene explained that the court decisions involved cases linked to Q-Net, prostitution, and other offences. He praised the Ghana Immigration Service for carrying out the deportations professionally while respecting due process and human dignity. He also highlighted the agency’s coordination with the courts and security services in maintaining public safety and upholding law and order in the region.

The deportations reflect a growing crackdown on Nigerians abroad. In late November, at least 50 Nigerians were arrested in India during one of the largest coordinated operations against a transnational narcotics network. The raids, conducted by the Delhi Police with support from the Telangana Police’s EAGLE unit, followed months of intelligence gathering and targeted a cartel involved in trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as hawala-based money-laundering activities.

These recent developments in Ghana and India underscore ongoing international efforts to address criminal activities involving foreign nationals, including Nigerians.
