ADC Drags EKSIEC To Court
The African Democratic Congress in Ekiti has sued the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission over its guidelines for the coming local government elections.
The case was filed at the state High Court in Ado Ekiti.
The suit was brought by two chairmanship candidates, who asked the court to stop the election until key issues are reviewed.
They argued that parts of the guidelines go against the Electoral Act 2026 and the Constitution.
At the centre of the dispute are nomination fees and tax clearance demands, which the party says are too high and unfair.
It claims the rules could shut out qualified candidates and weaken free participation.
Party officials said the move is to protect fairness at the grassroots level.
They insist elections must follow clear and lawful rules, while the court is expected to decide the next step before the polls go ahead.
