Ex Petroleum Minister Diezani Aquited In UK Bribery Case
Former Petroleum Minister has been cleared of all bribery charges by a court in London, bringing an end to a high-profile case that lasted for years.
The verdict was delivered after a jury at concluded its deliberations.
The former minister, who served under former President between 2010 and 2015, had faced five counts of receiving bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.
Prosecutors alleged that benefits she received were linked to oil and gas business interests seeking contracts in Nigeria.
Throughout the trial, Alison-Madueke denied any wrongdoing and maintained that she had no authority over the award of government contracts.
After more than 46 hours of deliberation, jurors found her not guilty on all six counts.
The ruling also cleared oil executive and Alison-Madueke’s brother, , who had faced related charges.
Their acquittals mark the end of a case that British authorities had pursued for more than a decade.
