Abia State Governor Alex Otti visited IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu at Sokoto Correctional Centre on Sunday, reaffirming that efforts to secure his release are ongoing.
Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Representatives from the Sokoto State Government were also present.
After the meeting, Ekeoma said the governor encouraged Kanu to remain resilient, highlighting that initiatives he began more than two years ago had been intensified. Otti expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved administratively, and that Kanu would regain his freedom soon.
The governor also shared that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, had thrown his support behind a peaceful resolution. Otti joked that the Sultan referred to Kanu as his “subject” and suggested he would be turbaned, which reportedly brought laughter from Kanu.
Kanu, described as being in high spirits, thanked Otti for the visit, praised the development projects in Abia State, and urged the governor to continue prioritising good governance.
