Students Gives FG Deadline Over Allowance Delay
The National Association of Nigerian Students has warned the Federal Government and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to immediately release unpaid student upkeep allowances after beneficiaries reportedly went two months without receiving payments.
The students’ body said many beneficiaries are facing financial hardship due to the delay, adding that complaints have continued to pour in from students across the country.
NANS argued that the welfare support is a key part of the loan scheme and should not be disrupted.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, called on NELFUND Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr, Education Minister Maruf Olatunji Alausa and Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele to address the issue and ensure all outstanding allowances are paid without further delay.
The association warned that continued inaction could lead to nationwide peaceful protests, including plans to occupy NELFUND’s headquarters.
NANS said students are becoming increasingly frustrated and urged authorities to act quickly to avoid a confrontation.
