Soldiers Rejects Plans To Deploy Repentant Terrorists In Military Operations
Nigerian soldiers fighting insurgency in the North-East have raised concerns over an alleged plan requiring them to work alongside former Boko Haram fighters who recently completed rehabilitation and reintegration programmes in Borno State.
The development has reportedly created tension within some military formations.
According to military sources, some of the former insurgents have been attached to local security groups that support operations against terrorist cells.
The soldiers fear the arrangement could expose sensitive operational information and create security risks during missions.
The concerns stem from lingering doubts about the loyalty of some rehabilitated fighters.
Troops reportedly believe that intelligence leaks and past security breaches have made it difficult to fully trust individuals who were once part of insurgent networks.
The controversy follows the recent reintegration of hundreds of former insurgents and their family members under Borno State’s deradicalisation programme.
While state officials describe the initiative as part of efforts to restore peace, some security personnel remain worried about its impact on ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
