Spotify has named Nigerian star Sarah Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, as the number one female Afrobeats artist of the past year.
The platform hailed the “Rush” crooner as “the pop star of Afrobeats,” highlighting her rising influence across the globe. She secured the top spot on Spotify’s list of the five leading female Afrobeats artists, with Grammy-winning singer Tems coming in second.
American-Cameroonian talent Libianca claimed third place, while Malian-French artist Aya Nakamura and British-Nigerian act Darkoo ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
Notably, South African star Tyla was missing from the list despite her strong presence at recent Afrobeats award shows.
Spotify also released its ranking of the Top 5 Afrobeats Artists in Latin America, which was dominated by Nigerians: Rema took first place, Ayra Starr second, CKay third, followed by Burna Boy and Wizkid in fourth and fifth.
