The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has revealed that Nigeria’s banking sector recorded the highest number of consumer complaints, with recoveries surpassing N10 billion between March and August 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Ondaje Ijagwu, the commission listed the top 10 sectors with the most consumer complaints: banking (3,173 complaints), fast-moving consumer goods (1,543), fintech (1,442), electricity (458), e-commerce (412), telecommunications (409), retail/wholesale/shopping (329), aviation (243), information technology (131), and road transport and logistics (114).

FCCPC said it successfully resolved 9,091 consumer complaints within the period under review.

“Total recoveries for consumers exceeded N10 billion, reflecting the scale of harm suffered and the heavy financial burden placed on consumers when redress mechanisms are absent,” the commission stated.

Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, Tunji Bello, stressed that the figures represent more than just numbers.

“These numbers are not just statistics; they tell the story of consumer frustration and the daily challenges Nigerians face in essential services. However, the FCCPC is determined to hold businesses accountable, ensure compliance with the FCCPA, and promote fair market practices that protect the welfare of all consumers.”
