El Rufai To File No-case Submission As DSS Ends Trial
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai is seeking to halt his ongoing trial after the Department of State Services closed its case against him at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.
The DSS is prosecuting him over allegations linked to unlawful interception of communications and national security concerns.
The agency concluded its case after informing the court that it would not present additional witnesses.
In response, El-Rufai’s legal team announced plans to file a no-case submission, arguing that the prosecution failed to provide enough evidence for him to open a defence.
The case stems from remarks El-Rufai allegedly made during a television interview in February, where he claimed to have obtained details of a conversation involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and an alleged plan to arrest him.
The DSS said the comments violated provisions of the Cybercrimes Act.
El-Rufai also asked the court to relax his bail conditions, describing them as difficult to meet.
However, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik rejected the request and fixed September 22 for hearing on the no-case submission and further proceedings.
