FG Directs Security Agencies On Gas Hoarders
The Federal Government has ordered security agencies and regulators to move against the hoarding, illegal diversion and speculative storage of cooking gas as prices continue to rise across Nigeria.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the cost of LPG for households and businesses.
The directive was announced in Abuja by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, during an emergency meeting with industry stakeholders.
He said urgent action was needed to address activities driving up the price of the product.
According to the government, some operators are suspected of storing and diverting supplies to create artificial shortages and increase profits.
Authorities believe these practices are worsening the burden on consumers already facing rising living costs.
To enforce compliance, the government has enlisted the DSS, EFCC and the Nigeria Police Force to work with regulators in identifying offenders and restoring stability to the cooking gas market.
