The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended its former Majority Leader, Hon. Saater Tiseer, and former Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Michael Audu, over alleged gross misconduct considered capable of undermining the unity and integrity of the House.
The decision was made during plenary on Friday, chaired by Speaker Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga.
The two ex-principal officers were accused of exploiting their positions for personal benefit, breaching the House’s Standing Orders.
The motion was moved by the current Majority Leader, Hon. Thomas Dugeri, who stated that the former leaders’ conduct had tarnished the reputation of the House.
He explained that an ad-hoc committee investigating their conduct found them guilty of misusing their offices in ways inconsistent with their oaths of office and membership.
Following the committee’s findings, the House suspended Hon. Saater Tiseer for six months and Hon. Michael Audu for three months, intending to serve as a warning to others.
In a related matter, the Assembly also dismissed Miss Dorcas Faeren Mbatiav from her position as a member of the Benue State House of Assembly Service Commission for gross misconduct and misuse of office.
According to the motion moved by Hon. Shimawua Terna of Kyan Constituency, Mbatiav was found to have leaked confidential information of the Commission, an action contravening Section 6(2) of the Benue State House of Assembly Service Commission (Establishment) Law, 2018.
Members further observed that she lacked the necessary public service background required under Section 5(2)(c) of the law.
Lawmakers argued that her continued presence on the Commission threatened its credibility and set a harmful precedent.
The House unanimously voted to remove her from the appointment to protect the Commission’s integrity.
