Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has ignited heated discussions online after expressing controversial views on infidelity and polygamy.

During a podcast with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, Akintola argued that cheating is a cultural norm among Nigerian men, claiming that “90 to 99% of men cheat by default.”

The conversation began after Adesanya read a note from a woman seeking advice about her unfaithful boyfriend. Responding, Akintola said infidelity is not new but a generational pattern tied to polygamy and cultural upbringing.

“The majority of our men cheat. Your father cheated, sir. I’m sorry. Your grandfather did. Polygamy, polygamy. Yes, my father has two wives,” she stated.

She continued: “I don’t know where this idea of fidelity came from in Africa. The reality is 90% of our men cheat, it’s ingrained in them. Some even grew up following their fathers to see girlfriends.”

Akintola added that women should manage their expectations rather than believe every man will be faithful. “You leave one man because he cheated, you go to another, the same problem. Jay Z cheated on Beyoncé. Did she leave? No. So please, let’s talk about the reality we are facing,” she said.
