Skills Not Certificates Will Shape Nigeria’s Future – Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has said that Nigeria’s progress will depend more on practical skills than academic certificates. He made the remark while speaking on the need to reform education and strengthen job readiness among young people.
The President said the country must shift focus to ability and productivity.
Tinubu explained that the labour market is changing and employers now value what people can do more than the papers they hold.
He said this reality should guide how schools and training institutions prepare students for work. According to him, skills development will help reduce unemployment and boost economic growth.
He also linked the idea to wider reforms aimed at improving education, technology and innovation in Nigeria.
The President said young Nigerians must be equipped with tools that make them competitive locally and globally. He stressed that the future economy will reward competence over certification.
Tinubu added that government policies are being adjusted to support technical education and vocational training.
He said the goal is to build a workforce capable of driving industrial growth and innovation. The statement reflects ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s education system for modern demands.
