US Congressman Alleges Christian Persecution In Nigeria
U.S. Congressman Riley Moore has claimed that he witnessed reports of mass killings, church burnings and forced displacement during what he described as anti-Christian violence in Nigeria, a claim that has drawn fresh attention to the country’s security situation.
He made the remarks during an interview where he also criticised the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden for allegedly downplaying religious violence in Nigeria and removing the country from a religious freedom watchlist.
He argued that the situation had been wrongly explained through issues such as climate change and farmer-herder disputes.
Moore said he visited displaced persons’ camps in Benue State, where he heard accounts from survivors of attacks that left families devastated.
He described repeated assaults on communities and said some camps had also come under attack from armed groups linked to extremist organisations.
The congressman said his delegation submitted recommendations to improve security cooperation, strengthen local policing systems and impose targeted sanctions on armed groups, while also calling for deeper international attention to the situation he described.
