El Rufai Faces New Charges Alone
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on Monday arraigned former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai at a Kaduna High Court on an amended nine-count charge involving alleged fraud and abuse of office.
His lawyer, Ukpong Abang, said the prosecution revised the case and dropped the co-defendant, Amadu Sule.
He explained that the new charges were served in court, making it impossible for the defence to proceed with the hearing.
The court, presided over by Darius Khobo, took el-Rufai’s plea and considered his bail request before adjourning the matter to April 14 for a hearing on the application.
El-Rufai is also expected to appear before a Federal High Court on the same day over a separate case filed by the ICPC, where he faces additional allegations alongside another defendant.
